There Will Be Blood

Acting / Dialogue (8.5): Filming was set mostly in the style of the old Western with limited dialogue. Daniel Day-Lewis provides an Oscar level performance though I still favor his portrayal of Bill the Butcher in Gangs of New York. The remainder of the cast is slightly above average, which suits Lewis' performance fine. Lewis is a 10 everyone else is a 7.

Cinematography / Effects / Music (8.5): The visuals are also very appealing. You get a true sense of the time and the opening scene is great. The music was used adequately and helped strengthen Lewis' performance.

Plot Originality / Effectiveness (6.5): Lewis' desire to create an empire for himself was apparent, but as the movie moved along I felt like the point fell away. The last half hour of the movie left me feeling like the director wasn't sure how to end the film properly and the conclusion while fitting for the relationship of the characters did not add anything to the movie for me.

Viewing Experience (6): While Lewis' performance will go down as one of the best ever I was eagerly awaiting the conclusion of the film once it hit the two hour mark. At that point I started thinking "how can they possibly end this film". The ending will be considered classic, and rightfully so, however they could have ended it the same way 30 minutes prior and achieved the same result.
